What is the Octomer?

The Octomer is the Saurs’ classified record of engineered traits, each drawn from a different prehistoric ancestor. Eight of them: sight that resolves movement about eighty kilometers out, gills that never need to surface, a tail-whip that breaks the sound barrier, a sprint of roughly a hundred kilometers an hour, a wingspan near six meters that stays aloft for days, hearing that reads footfalls at a similar range, a scent trail still followable days after it was laid, and an intellect decisively beyond human. A Saur is a dinosaur that never went extinct — one of the descendants that fled Earth sixty-six million years ago for Theia, its hidden sister planet, and evolved there into a civilization built on science, hierarchy, and genetic perfection. Filo, the human teenager at the center of Saur, grows up hidden in the shadows of that civilization.
